For every business sign, the goal is to be effective and stand out while still being legible. However, that goal is much easier stated than achieved. While it takes a lot of planning and some considerations, the goal is achievable. The big three to keep in mind are legibility, clarity and visibility. For legibility, the biggest aspect is finding the right font. For clarity, you will need a mix of good space balance and a crisp look. For visibility, it is more focused on how large the letters are and from how far away you are aiming to market. Before starting your design, it’s important to consider how your audience will view your sign. For instance, if you will be marketing to motorists on a highway that is a bit far from the physical location, the font and size choices for channel letter signs will differ from those that will be seen from a street that passes by or pedestrians. To best market your business, keep the following principles in mind during design. Letter Case While many type emails in all capital letters to have less strain on their eyes while on the computer, the same should not be true of channel letter signs. Having letters in the same case actually makes signs harder to read. The difference in height and shape makes signs much easier to read as the brain can better differentiate the individual letters from one another. After having partnered with Monarch Sign & Graphics for their business signage at their new location in Tomball, TX, Old Republic Title found themselves in need of ADA Compliant Signage. Old Republic Title Insurance Group has been around since the early 1900s. The business has a focus on providing the best title insurance policies and related real estate transaction and mortgage lending products and services to fit the unique needs of all consumers, lenders, businesses and even government agencies that come to them with insurance needs. After success in the area, they took a brand-new location in Tomball, TX, one of the fastest growing towns in the area. When Old Republic Title came to us for their ADA signage needs, we knew exactly where to start. ADA signs requirements are strictly enforced under the Americans with Disabilities Act. When these signs aren’t properly executed, it’s the same as not having ADA signs at all. This can impact how the signs are both manufactured and designed. The fines associated with non-compliance can be steep, especially for the initial fine. ADA signs can be found many places, including the “big box” stores. However, they can be generic and clash with existing aesthetic, along with other limitations such as finding only restroom signs. Old Republic Title Insurance Group first opened in 1907 in Minnesota, providing title insurance policies and related real estate transaction and mortgage lending products and services to consumers, lenders, businesses and even government agencies. Ever since the first office opened, the company has expanded at a quick yet sustainable rate, offering great customer service and full support for all insurance and lending needs. For their newest location in the rapidly expanding Tomball, TX, Old Republic Title was referred to Monarch Sign & Graphics by one of our great clients, RE/MAX Elite Properties. The recommendation came after Old Republic Title expressed interest in finding a sign company to partner with that shared their values in quality work and great customer service. As a local company that values ourselves on the work and great service we provide, the partnership was well-suited between our two businesses. The new custom lobby sign for the reception area was one part of the overall project we completed for Old Republic Title. The overall project included: Custom ADA Signs Exterior Window Graphics Building Sign Tenant Panels Custom Lobby/Reception Sign When we created the lobby sign, we created a high contrast using a high gloss finish and laser cut the letter and logo elements from black acrylic. By cutting the acrylic with a laser, a polished edge that matched the gloss finish of the front side of the letters was achieved. The result was a beautiful and finely tuned finish that matched the modern feel of the company while staying true to its original, long-standing imagery.
